Someone Get The Lysol...

This is from TheOnion.com:
Sources within the Red Wings organization confirm that goalie Chris Osgood, who is currently engaged in accompanying the Stanley Cup on a victory tour of talk shows and publicity events, has repeatedly and insistently claimed to have gotten as far as third base with hockey's championship trophy during the past week. ...When asked for comment, Osgood himself initially refused to give details.

[...]

Osgood told ESPN's Jim Rome when asked about his involvement with the trophy on Wednesday's Jim Rome Is Burning. "I mean, everyone dreams of winning the Cup, that's only natural. But it's not like that with me. Come on, man."

However, when Rome attempted to change the subject to Osgood's long and tumultuous Detroit career, Osgood, apparently warming to the subject, continued to talk about his relationship with the Cup.

"Okay, now, I'm not saying there isn't—it's a powerful feeling, when you win the Cup, and sometimes that leads to other feelings that are just as powerful," Osgood continued. "Things happen, but you and the Cup both want them to happen, and you go back to the hotel and ask it to watch Dirty Dancing, and eventually maybe you get into some up and over, or there's some up and down and underneath, or maybe—I'm not saying this happened, but you know—maybe there's more than one way to kiss the Cup."

"A better way," a grinning Osgood added as an evidently stunned Rome remained mute. "A way that brings the Cup as much pleasure as the Cup brings you. Or the great city of Detroit, for that matter."
I laughed until I cried, but now someone needs to tell me what I have to do to erase that image from my head! Read the entire thing here. We'll talk RFAs and outdoor games tomorrow...

I laughed so hard when I read that...it makes me wonder what our boys would have done with the Cup if they had won - or should I say when they win! I found this video on good ol' youtube.

It's Sidney before he was drafted. The quality's not that great, but it's funny.

I'm so bleary-eyed from working overnight-- that I had to read it again. Only when I saw the name "The Onion" did I realize it was a joke.

Or was it.........

I laughed really hard when I read that. The only thing that might start to get that image out of your head is looking at the Frozen Moment (though even that didn't work for me). It is an old picture but I still like it.

I hope poor Lord Stanley doesn't get knocked up. What a PR nightmare that would be for the Red Wings. If that happened, would there be a slapshot wedding? Will Stanley be known as Stanley Osgood? Will other teams be invited to the cuptuals? Will Max show up and do his Superstar Dance? And what happens when the other team members want their day with Mr/Mrs?Stanley Osgood? See, I knew those Red Wings winning the Cup was just wrong!

Okay, so obviously I know it's a joke, but I don't think I am completely understanding the whole thing... but it's okay, I get the feeling that it is a kind of joke that no one really wants to explain.

bahahaha, I love the onion.

It was so hard trying not to actually laugh out loud when I was reading that. I don't want my co-workers to think I'm some weirdo or something. A couple did walk by my cubicle while I was failing miserably at trying to force myself not to smile, though.

@bex....thanks for that video! Seeing Sid laugh uncontrollably like that was great!

@snickerdoodles...ok, YOU had me rolling! Slapshot wedding....ha!

Everyone....don't forget to watch the Awards tonight and then Sidney Crosby Revealed afterwards! See? They are trying to ease us off the hockey so the withdrawls aren't TOO bad...

@bex,
That might be the funniest pointless clip I've ever seen, lol
Seriously, I lost it when Sidney started laughing
It just reminds me of the stupid reasons my best friend and I laugh. She called me one time to tell me "I think I drank too much Coca-Cola Classic." and I laughed for seriously 20 minutes straight, so hard that I cried.

And about the Onion, man, those writers are great. I hope that if there was ever such a thing (and god I hope not), that they thoroughly clean it after every "visit."

my stomach is hurting me!!!

are 'alternative' unions legal in Michigan?

thank god there's no NHL franchise in Utah... or we'd be looking at a potentially scandalous situation for poor Stan...

duuude I'm so angry
First I see that they have a montage about veterans on the NHL awards. . .NOT ONE PENGUIN.

Then, they remind me of why GONCHAR should have been nominated for the Norris.

Then, why Fleury shoulda been nominated.

Then, Geno loses out to Ovechkin.
WHATEV.

It was just awful.

@ michelle.

I agree with you 1 million%. I mean Alex is amazing. He is one of my favorite players in the NHL but Geno should have won the Hart or the Pearson award. Alex shouldn't have won both. Same with Datsyuk. SPREAD THE LOVE!! But Congrats to the winners. They deserved those trophies. And I still love you Genooo<3

Gonchar seriously deserved it too. Yes. Nick Lindstrom is awesome. We all know that and he has proved that like.. 5 times... oh wait.. I mean 6 times!! Gonchar better be winning the Norris next season. He is awesome.

Oh well, C'est la vie.
I miss you hockey season.
I miss you Pens.

TORONTO -- Evgeni Malkin did not leave the NHL Awards Show at Elgin Theatre on Thursday night with either the Hart Trophy or the Lester B. Pearson Award.

But he said the prize he really covets -- a long-term contract extension with the Penguins -- is on its way.

"I'm thinking maybe five or six years," said Malkin, set to enter the final season of his three-year entry-level deal. "I'm an easy guy to deal with. I'd love to stay in Pittsburgh."

and

He also shrugged off speculation the Penguins will trade him this summer to create salary-cap space necessary to sign several impending free agents, including forwards Marian Hossa and Ryan Malone and defenseman Brooks Orpik.

"Those are just rumors," Malkin said, through an interpreter. "I don't even pay attention to those."

and more about his salary demands and illness at the Trib

HEYYY, GENOOOO!

@Michelle

Thanks for this update!
It was hard to see him at the awards show. He kinda looked lost and a little dejected.

It would be great to lock him into a long term deal, and watch him grow.

Yeah, I was not overly impressed with the awards show (no Stars either...though they showed Mikey when they did the "old guys" montage!)

I was just reading over at http://hlog.blogspot.com/ that someone noticed when Lidstrom won the Norris, that the kid handing him the award had a jersey that said "Lindstrom" on it.(there's a picture on the site) Bet the NHL staffer that let THAT get through is looking for a new job today...

Anyway....time to move on to the draft!

The Onion must have a very clever hockey fan in their ranks; this is the third hilarious NHL piece to come out there in the last six months.

First one was on Sid's injury: "NHL Out Three to Five Weeks with Sprained Right Poster Boy."

Then there was the Ovechkin video: "NHL Star Called Up to Big Leagues to Play for NFL Team."

And now this. Phew, too funny!

i saw that ovechkin video a couple months ago and was on the floor laughing for about 20 minutes. then i showed it to my room-mate (who's a Leafs fan)and we both lost it for another 20 minutes, then her boyfriend came in and asked what we were laughing about and...

well, i lost about 5 lbs laughing that afternoon.

mostly because of this:
"what's he doing here?"
"he's um skating and he he is moving the the puck around . . . my wife tells me skating is a great cardio workout, she's got a pair of those rollerblades. . ."

like sid in that video anon posted, the amount we laughed was not proportional to how funny it really was... but it was THAT funny to us.

whoever it is at the onion who loves hockey deserves a shout-out!

Good read on the upcoming deals

An MVP finalist after leading the Penguins with 47 goals and 106 points, Malkin added he would accept an annual salary less than the $8.7 million due Crosby each of next five seasons.

Orpik, praised by team officials and coaches and opponents during the Penguins' playoff run, told the Penguins he would accept less than market value for a deal of at least five seasons.

Malone and the Penguins are believed to be far apart on a new contract. He is expected to lean toward testing the free-agent market, where the Columbus Blue Jackets will likely make a play for his services - possibly with an offer near $5 million annually over five years.

Bugsy's probably gone
