Penguins 4 - Devils 6: Valiant in Defeat

Sidney Crosby

It looks like Andy Hilbert has really found himself a home. After getting jacked around by the classless Hawks, Hilbert now has 10 points in his 12 games with the Penguins, including 2 goals last night versus the Devils.

As for last night, Sid Crosby helped his poolies (ie. ME!) with a goal and an assist in another 'who needs defense?' game.

Patrik Elias scored a hat-trick Wednesday night to lead the New Jersey Devils to a 6-4 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Sidney Crosby flipped the puck past Martin Brodeur 27 seconds into the contest. He took Colby Armstrong’s pass and beat Brodeur low to the stick side. Ryan Whitney had the other assist.

Patrik Elias redirected Scott Gomez’s pass behind Marc-Andre Fleury for a power-play goal 3:18 into the contest.

That Devils duo hooked up again at 7:07 when Elias redirected a Gomez pass behind Fleury.

Andy Hilbert tied the game with 46.8 seconds to play. Konstantin Koltsov dropped a pass to Hilbert and he wristed the puck through traffic and into the net. Brooks Orpik picked up an assist on the play.

Zach Parise scored 2:55 into the second. His pass to the front of the net and it deflected of Eric Cairns and went into the goal.

Gomez rifled a shot past Fleury for a power-play goal with 11:49 left in the period. His shot deflected off a stick and soared into the net. Elias completed the hat-trick when he blasted a shot past Fleury with 7:15 left in the period.

Hilbert scored another goal with 2:38 left to play. He spun around and roofed a shot past Fleury. Orpik and Crosby earned assists.

Brian Rafalski fired a shot past Fleury on a two-man advantage for a 6-3 lead 5:15 into the third period.

Jani Rita backhanded a puck past Brodeur to cut the deficit to 6-4 at 8:07. Michel Ouellet and Tomas Surovy had the assists.
2 points and +1 in 22:13 of ice time. Crosby went 14 for 24 in faceoffs (something he's become better at), but did take two minor penalties. Tsk tsk!
