Sid Stuff for a Sleepy Sunday

Here is some more of the great stuff I got from you guys this weekend. Several Friends of The Show sent in this video of a 14 year old Sid on a show called After the Hour. This little gem shows footage of Mrs. Crosby's poor laundry area, and it features a prepubescent Sid imagining how nice it would be to play hockey and get paid for it...

Thanks to Lisa-Marie W., Madga S., and Crystal W., who each sent in this link. This next video that Lisa sent us is footage of Sid's interview with KDKA's Sonni Abatta. In it, he talks about his first job (he was a paper boy) as well as how long he plans to live with Mario Lemieux (as long as Mario will let him).

In yet another "Great Minds Think Alike" moment, Lisa and Madga both sent in their own summaries of a show called "After Hours" that airs in Canada. (If anyone finds this on YouTube, please let me know - I'd love to see it.)

Lisa's take:
Just some little tidbits from a show that Sid was on tonight :)

The show is called After Hours--it's a half hour segment after Hockey night in Canada, and the interviews are usually a lot of fun and spirited. Here's some cool tidbits:

--In a yes/no hot seat game, Sid said that he disagreed with making nets bigger, agreed with downsizing goalie equipment, and disagreed with larger ice surfaces.

--One of Sid's "superstitions" is that he can't talk to his mother on game day. He said he's only done it 3 times, and all 3 is when he got injured. Hatcher knocked his teeth out, he separated his shoulder in Tampa Bay, and he broke his foot in Montreal. He said he only calls his dad's cell, because he knows she won't answer.

--He said one downside to his "celebrity" status is that he can't go and see his little sis play, because he becomes the center of attention. He said that he knows it's her time, but it's a bummer because he'd like to see her do something that she loves to do. They showed an adorable clip of the two of them sitting on a couch, and she just rested her head on his shoulder. Aaaawww, I love big brothers.

The announcers surprised him with a clip--they told him some guy in the US who's been a fan for years had a question for him. When they cut to the clip, it was Dany Roussin asking Sid who his favourite linemate of all time was. Roussin was Sid's linemate and really good friend in Juniors, and Sid got a real kick out of seeing him again. He said that Roussin and he had stayed good friends over the years.
Very superstitious, nothin' more to say...

Magda's take:
Last night’s Pens @ Vancouver game had a really funny Sid interview after the game on the Canadian broadcast. In it, Sid admitted that one of his pre-game rituals includes NOT calling his mom because apparently all three times he’s called her before a game, he got injured. The game before he broke his ankle he talked to his mom for just a second when she just passed the phone to his dad and he still got injured. So he says he never calls her, just calls his dad’s cell phone. If this video should turn up on youtube, you should take a look. He seemed a lot more jovial in it then his usual serious self. It was on CBC and the segment is called After Hours (with Scott Oake and Kelly Hrudey)
Finally, check out this article over at The Sidney Crosby Spotlight. Friend of The Show and fellow Crosby watcher Eric B. takes a closer look at why Sid lost out on Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year to the Green Bay Packers' quarterback Brett Favre.
