Rangers 3 - Penguins 2 (SO): Slip-Sliding Away

Sidney Crosby keeps scoring, but the Penguins keep on losing. What looked like a chance at a playoff spot is slipping away as the Penguins have gone 3-7 (well, 3-4-3) in their past 10 games and find themselves in 13th place in the Eastern Conference.

What's worse? The Sid apparently was limping around after the game with his ankle in a bandage. I hope this isn't the start of something bad.

On the night, Crosby finished with 1 goal in 3 shots on goal in just 18:37 of ice time. He finished EVEN on the night and 8-17 on faceoffs.

The Rangers pulled out a 3-2 shootout win over the Penguins on Thursday at Madison Square Garden.

Nils Ekman got the Penguins on the scoreboard with 1:22 left in the first period. Awarded a penalty shot, Ekman backhanded the puck past Henrik Lundqvist for the goal.

It was the first time the Penguins have scored on a penalty shot at Madison Square Garden in the regular season.

Sidney Crosby gave the Penguins a 2-0 lead with 8:27 left in the second period on a spectacular individual effort. On the power play, he carried the puck through all four Rangers penalty killers and flicked it past Lundqvist for the goal. Mark Recchi and Marc-Andre Fleury earned assists.

Blair Betts deflected a short-handed goal past Marc-Andre Fleury with 11:17 left in the game.

Brendan Shanahan blistered a slap-shot past Fleury for a power-play goal with 9:47 left to knot the game at 2-all.

The game ended at 2-all in regulation and no team scored in the overtime period.

In the shootout, Shanahan scored on New York’s first attempt, while Fleury turned away Matt Cullen.

Lundqvist stopped Malkin, Ekman and Crosby to seal the win.
