Wolf Blitzer Doens't Know Jack About Hockey
Adam and Derek from ThePensblog.com somehow were able to locate a video of CNN's Wolf Blitzer not recognizing the name Sidney Crosby, and the guys were nice enough to pass it along to me.
Okay so, how bad is it that former House Majority Leader Dick Armey knows who the Saint is but a newsman like Blitzer does not? Yeesh!
At the 1:42 mark, Armey does the name drop while he's discussing what strategies Hillary Clinton needs implement to beat her opponent Barack Obama in tomorrow's PA primary elections. About 30 seconds later (at the 2:09 mark), Blitzer makes an ass of himself:
Hmmm... Maybe Wolf should pick up the sports section once in a while, haha!
Big thanks go to tPB guys for the video. :)
GO PENS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing the video.
Who knew it was possible not to know who Sid is. Maybe if he was referred to as "Sid the Kid", Wolf might have known. And he's suppose to know about current events...he needs to look at the sports pages every now and again.
The video made me laugh.
Oh my goodness! Girls at my dance studio who have probably never even seen an entire hockey game in their lives know who Sidney Crosby is!!
One word... WOW
Did you hear him say "They don't have hockey in New York"?
As a New York resident who knows that we are a hockey loving state, I find it offensive. He's a political moron who works for Hillary, so I understand he doesn't follow hockey or know who Sid is, but good lord, your insulting three teams by saying we don't have hockey in New York.
Politics infuriates me, so don't mind this ranting comment.
heh heh, i've been waiting for a new yorker to jump on that!!! ;) don't sweat it too much, though... blitzer is a tool.
besides, exactly where did he think the winter classic was being held? and he CANNOT use the "i didn't hear about that game" excuse because we tuned into two stations for weather reports at 6:00am on 01-01-08 before we ventured north, one was the weather channel, and the other was cnn. i remember distinctly because each time the anchor on the respective channels mentioned travel weather for "the outdoor hockey game," we'd shout, "WOOOOOOOOO!!!!" (yeah, we're dorks. what can i say?)
Is he kidding? He is from Buffalo, NY and graduated from the University at Buffalo in 1970 the exact year the Sabres were formed and he wants us to believe that NY doesn't have hockey. I would like him to turn on a local news show in his hometown of Buffalo and then say that there is no hockey in Buffalo. One of the Western Conference's young stars (Patrick Kane) is from South Buffalo, and we hear about his progress practically every night. Thanks Wolf for insulting, the Rangers, Sabres, Islanders, and every hockey player from NY. He has obviously not been back in Buffalo since Sid started playing because everyone in Buffalo, (even those who don't know hockey is played with a puck) has heard the name Sidney Crosby at least 15 times.
Snoop- I'll be sure to take lots of pictures. :D! I'm already clearing out space on my harddrive to store them all. haha. My camera is not as good as yours, but I'm sure I'll be able to get something...
Hhhmm...at least there are some interesting games on tonight. Habs vs. Bruins should be exciting. My brother loves the Caps...I don't care. haha.

This is the link to an article from the Toronto Sun where they talk to Sid about anything anyone could ever want to know.
Wow, okay so he's from Buffalo and he thinks that NY doesn't have hockey. And that whole fact that there was a huge game (the favorite Winter Classic) was held there with Sid playing? Yea, okay someone needs a sports magazine renewal. Thanks for posting it. It made me laugh (even people who don't know a thing about hockey know who Sid is..).
Are those seriously their real names??? (the two political guys)
I mean....COME ON!!
bud, heh heh heh, yep!
for anyone who cares, the caps pulled a win out of their rear ends (<-- read: they signed alexander ovechkin), so they are tied 3-3 in their series with the flyers. after the flyers started the second period 2-0, the caps answered with four of their own (2 of those goals came from ovie - both the game winner and the insurance goal). so now it's "bring on game 7!"
what a battle! GOD, I LOVE PLAYOFF HOCKEY!!!!!!!!!
OMG! i forgot to say thank you to prflyerchik for the sid link!!! :)
"...the Quebec native?"
The journalist in me dies.
All i have to say to Wolfie
*and mind you this is in his intellectual language*
is:
"derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"
AND
OMG
Sidney likes U2!
From that article:
"Best group?
“U2.”
*fangirls*
I swear I'm not normally like that. Really. promise.
And question. . .was this once a French article or something, cuz it is cheesy sort of. . .
“The Canadiens, the club of my dreams.” (His first encounter with the Canadiens will be in Pittsburgh, Nov. 10.)
The club of my dreams.
Hmmm.
This brings up another issue I've been thinking about lately. . .which no one else is cuz its obv. too early to tell but. . . Mario stayed. . through thick and thin. . . do you think Sid will bail for Montreal?
Don't throw things at me :[
as a canadian, i am amused: to think that there are news anchors in the US who have no clue who Sidney Crosby is when we have a six-time Stanley Cup champion representing a riding in Toronto in the Federal government...
michelle,
first - u2 effing ROCKS!!!
second - that article is from 2005. i think it might have even been before he even began playing with the pens. anyhoo, i think the treatment he gets in pittsburgh versus the punishment he takes in montreal have worked to change his mind about which team is the club of his dreams. (<-- but do not get me wrong - i NEVER forget that we have some great friends in montreal!!!) when he was young, he used to always say that he wanted to be drafted by the canadiens like his father was.
just remember that he's since signed that 5 year extension, so he's still ours for a while.
and if you read every interview he does (like i do - i know i'm a dork, but i DO run the show, haha), he often talks about how nice it is when a guy plays for the same team for his whole career, and he's ALWAYS saying how much he loves it in pittsburgh.
oh, and there's no doubt mario has been a very good influence on sid. imagine living RENT FREE with one of your heroes!!! unreal. :) :) :)
I think that the fact that Sid also cites Steven Yzerman (who played his whole career in Detroit) as his biggest hockey icon says a lot about his future in Pittsburgh too. I don't think that he'll be leaving on his own accord for quite a while.
