Crosby Content with Rookie Season

Joe O'Connor of the National Post adds to the post-season review of Sidney Crosby pile:

For Sidney Crosby, it was mission impossible.
Really? Is Sidney into Scientology now? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Built up to be the saviour for a beleaguered and near-bankrupt Pittsburgh Penguins franchise, a shoo-in to win rookie of the year honours and an all-around saint in a hockey sweater before the puck had even dropped on the 2005-06 season, Crosby -- all 18-years of him -- was destined to fall short of the diabolically lofty expectations placed upon his teenaged shoulders.
and who placed this 'diabolically' lofty expectations on his shoulders? Oh, that's right, it was mainstream media members such as yourself. I don't recall Mario Lemieux or even Sidney himself saying that he was going to be the 'saviour' of the franchise.

And the evidence might suggest Sid the Kid was a flop
ORLY? After a 102 point season? After setting the record for being the youngest player to score 100 points? Did he take steroids or something? Shoot his own goaltending in a hunting accident?

His Penguins are out of the playoffs and remain on life support. Alexander Ovechkin is the consensus pick to capture the Calder trophy. And that sweet, angelic young man from Cole Harbour, N.S., showed a devilish-side on several occasions over the past eight months, criticizing his ex-coach, Ed Olczyk, belly-aching to referees about alleged missed calls, and taking a number of knucklehead penalties.
Oh, so it's all Sidney Crosby's fault that the Penguins are fighting over a new stadium and fighting with financial problems?? His season is a flop because there is another super-duper rookie in the league at the same time? His season is a flop because he badmouthed a bad coach? Your 'evidence' sucks!

But the Crosby crash-and-burn version of events only flies with the glass-is-half-empty crowd
Actually, only the most idiotic of the idiots would even consider your 'argument' that Crosby's rookie season was a flop.

It is the other crowds that matter most. Like the 17,000 hooting, hollering and T-shirt waving fans who showed up in Pittsburgh two nights ago to watch the Next One set up three goals to become the youngest player in NHL history to score 100 points in a season. Or the legions of Leaf fans who roared with delight last night as Crosby notched his 39th goal to break Mario Lemieux's team record for rookie scoring and added a helper for good measure.
Right...

Fortunately, the article does get better after that. Why the author even bothers with an Anti-Sidney jab that goes nowhere is beyond me.
