A New Day, A New Game

Ahhhh. Now that we've had a day to rid ourselves of our frustrations about Wednesday's game, today is a new day, and now we can and should move forward. It's not that we'll forget that loss (November 5th, Pens v Devils - mark your calendars because THAT is a game you won't want to miss), but since it was only game 5, we can let it go for now. We have much more pressing things to focus on. Tonight the Penguins face the Carolina Hurricanes for the second time this season. And as sure as I can guarantee you that Paul Steigerwald will mention the fact that Jordan Staal and Eric Staal are related 150 times an hour (Thanks, Captain Obvious. We get it - they're cousins, right? :P), I can guarantee you that we'll see a good match tonight. If you'll recall, the Pens were defeated by the Canes on their October 5 season opener. After Wednesday's emotional game, Sidney, Jordan, Geno, Max, Gary, et al. will likely have some pent up frustrations of their own to expel.

In order to get you through what's bound to be a looooong Friday at work (ha ha), I've got a few things for you today. First up is an article from USA Hockey Magazine Online by Joe Sager that asks the question "Can Sid The Kid Help Grow Hockey In America?"
...Crosby may not even be aware of his biggest achievement – a huge hockey boom in Western Pennsylvania, as well as across the country. Pittsburgh-area rinks are buzzing with an influx of hockey players – young and old – who have rediscovered the sport since The Kid’s arrival from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, in 2005.

A worthy role model

“If that’s what’s happening, I am happy that I am able to do that,” says the humble superstar. “I really love the game. If kids are looking at me as a role model, that is great. I am trying to do my best to be a good role model. It’s definitely fun to see more kids playing, that’s for sure.”
On a related note, Friend of The Show Maureen G. sent in a tip that USA Hockey Magazine is doing a cover story on the Saint for its very first glossy print edition. Look for it on newstands sometime next month.

I'll leave you today with something a little different. I got an email from the guys of The 2 Man Advantage telling me about a hockey show they've been producing. I watched it on YouTube, and I have to tell you, I was impressed. The newest episode finds them at the New York Islanders' training camp for a workout with former Pens draft pick Drew Fata. It's sort of a combination of reality and comedy. You should check it out. Here's the pilot episode:

There are 4 episodes so far. You can see the rest of them (including the newest episode with Fata) and give the guys some feedback on their "The 2 Man Advantage" YouTube homepage.
