In Memory of Luc Bourdon
Promising young Vancouver Canucks defenseman Luc Bourdon died yesterday in a tragic accident when he lost control of his motorcycle and crossed the center line and head-on into a tractor trailer. He was only 21. He was a really good friend of Kris Letang (from Bleacher Report):
A talented defenseman, he brought the Gold Medal to Canada twice at the World Junior Championships; in 2006 and 2007 with one of his closest friends, Kristopher Letang. In 2006, he got 6 points in 6 games, and was named among the Tournament All-Star Team. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Bourdon family and to all who knew him.
Stephane Leroux, a Sports writer and journalist on RDS, recalls Bourdon's moment at the World Junior. "During a practice, Bourdon pretended to be a RDS reporter and interviewed Letang. During the discussion, he would press the microphone on Letang's nose and forehead. Letang could not contain his laughs."
When contacted by the Medias, Kristopher Letang did not want to answer any question or make any comment, visibly shocked by the tragedy.
The two young men played together at the World Junior and for the Val d'Or Foreurs. During a game between Cap-Breton and Val d'Or, Bourdon had to face for the first time his former team and Letang. The Screaming Eagles lost that night, but fans could see the mark of a true friendship as Bourdon made a big hug to Letang on the ice.

very tragic.
so young and so full of promise.
So very sad.
I checked the Vancouver Sun online, and the leading article "Remembering the real Luc Bourdon" is touching and thoughtful. I recommend it highly. The Sun website also has a virtual condolences book to share one's thoughts -- though words feel so cheap in the face of such a thing. http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/

Bourdon is on the front of every newspaper in Vancouver today, and in most cases he's the entire top half or the only story that made the front page.
My heart is breaking a little today.
My condolences to his family and friends. He was far too young.
I agree with commentor "reneedc" words seem awfully cheap in this kind of situation...
My prayers go out to the Bourdon family and Luc's friends, especially Kris Letang...
It is definitely tragic when something like this happens. Unfortunately, alot of times it comes from ignorance. I wish more people would take those things more seriously.
My condolences go to the Bourdon Family as well as Kris Letang, who I absolutely adore.
RIP Luc.
The Bourdon and Cherepanov accidents are tragic, for their families and the NHL. The question is whether these accidents can be prevented in the future. Maybe better testing on the NHL's part for the Cherepanov situation and educating the players (youngsters) on dangerous activities such as motorcycle etc... Just seems like more should/can be done to prevent tragedies like these from occuring in the future.... My thoughts. http://jib-sports-culture.blogspot.com/2008/11/tragedy-for-promising-rookies.html
