Check out these awesome shots of Super Mario congratulating Sid the Kid on Sunday's big win. You can almost see the torch passing between them:

The Saint looks at Le Magnifique with such respect (as well he should!).

I had a thought... If anyone reading this is a Red Wings blogger, I'd be willing to make a friendly bet - just shoot me an email and I'll tell you my idea. :)

I've got a few things from some of our Friends of The Show: First up, Anthony S. made a wallpaper for us. He made it a while ago, but I held onto it so I wouldn't jinx anything. ;)

1024 x 768

Michelle B. sent in some links for us:
Michelle and Lexie101 were both lucky enough to be at Sunday's win over the Flyers. Here's what Michelle saw:

And here is the view Lexie enjoyed:

Lexie saw these rainbows (click to enlarge - you'll see that it's a double rainbow) just before the game. She said that she thought it was a good sign for the Pens. Obviously she was right! :)

SNOOP = JEALOUS! Thanks so much to Anthony, Michelle, and Lexie for today's goodies. :)

The countdown to Game 1 is officially on. Four more wins to make it a reality.

I don't know if any of you watched the Stars last night, but at the end (after we cheered our boys for about 5 minutes) there was a LOUD chant of "Let's Go Pens!" (started by a guy right behind me) I was so proud! :)

I am looking forward to a GREAT series. Detroit is clicking in all parts of their game. But I believe the Pens will take them! No more rings for the Wings!

I'm calling Pens in 6 (because, of course they have to win at home!)

GOOOOOOOOO PENS! (and thank you , Stars, for a great season!)

I think that it's funny that, if the Pens win the Cup (hopefully), Sidney Crosby and Jordan Staal will not legally be allowed to drink any of the champagne in celebration.

hahahaha, i love that you added the word "LEGALLY" to that sentence, anon!!! ;)

Now is when I get very very nervous...

Being an Ohioan, I am stuck with putting up with all those Detroit fans. I am not and never have been a Red Wings fan. Everyone here is against me and my team.. I just hope we can pull it off.

I am a nervous wreck right now.
LET'S GO PENS!
I am proud of you guys<3

If/When Sid and Jordan bring the cup "home" they are of legal age to drink from it then. Too bad they weren't playing against a Canadian team and then all would be fine.

I have a feeling that's not even on their minds right now. Although it has been pointed out during interviews already.

Great pics, thank you all for sharing!!

I love those pics of Sid and Mario! Mario is so tall!!
I am excited for two games on Saturday - two real hockey nights in Canada!
And snoop, it IS only money. Just think of the great time you will have and all the stories you will have to share!! It is absolutely worth it!

i guess this is why we have credit cards, right? haha! though, i don't know if i'll be as lucky as i've been in the past - i just got a text that only 1,000 tickets will be available for each game...

...though, i DID manage to get those winter classic tickets. maybe some of that luck will remain with me tomorrow... CROSS YOUR FINGERS FOR ME!!!

I just looked at the photos of Sid and Mario again and chills went down my spine.

Stephanie - I'm not sure if I posted a comment (or just imagined it, I've been sick the past couple days...) but I was blown away by Dallas and their fans. Such Class!

Snoop - 125$ is a steal. Gold medal game tickets for the 2010 Olympics? 775$ (Is that going to stop me from trying to get two tickets? Probably not. I didn't really need rent money for two months anyways...)

AH! Always someone to upstage me! LOL

Seeing Sid with Mario. . .it's just unreal.

It's like everytime I hear the first few bars of the Boys of Winter song. The first thing that pops into my brain is Mario Lemieux. Always has been and always will be. It's just what growing up in the golden age of Mario can do to you.

But Sid'll be second :)

Thanks, mer! From what I heard, even the Wings players were a little amazed at our show of appreciation for our guys. I was, of course, bawling like a baby. It's what I do. :)

I hadn't even thought about the whole underage drinking thing. Someone on the Pens staff needs to slap a Welch's Sparkling Grape Juice sticker on a bottle of bubbly for Sid and Jordan. I won't tell!

Weeeeeee! I can't wait for Saturday!!

At school today I was thinking about how, during the playoffs, it has seemed like the attention was taken off of the Pens "stars" and just put on the team as a whole. Then, I came home and read this article which sums up my thoughts exactly.

Sorry guys, it appears that my link won't work if you just highlight it. It only works when you double click the link, copy, and paste it into your address bar.

Stephanie, I watched the Stars game last night and the Stars fans are definitely a class act! Even though down by three, the fans were cheering like they were going to win Lord Stanley! I was very impressed and moved.
This series vs. Detroit is going to be huge! The old wing dings aren't going to know what hit 'em.

Seeing Dallas and their Cinderella run was very interesting in an otherwise yawnfest of a Western Conference (sorry WC fans)

Congrats to them and GL in the future.

Just so long as they don't try to cross my Pens :)

Is there anything more gratifying than knowing Sidney Effin' Crosby looks at Mario with the same reverence in his eyes that we fans do? I gotta gush for a minute....

Jaromir Jagr played with Mario for most of his Pens career. They shared a line, shared a powerplay, bonded and were friends. But Jaro never stopped looking at Mario as his hero. Even in these playoffs, when he was saying Sid and Geno are good but they're not Mario, that was because he still hero-worships Mario and you can't compare ANYBODY to your hero.

Sid met Mario before the year before we drafted him and has lived under Mario's roof for three years now. But he still looks at Mario like that, all awed and prideful and reverent, like a son to his father. That look is all the more important knowing that Sid already has a father he clearly respects and loves and admires. That can't be understated - Mario became a father figure to a guy who didn't need one.

When the people who spend every day with a man - who live with him and work with him and get accustomed to being around him - only admire him more with time, you know he's worthy of it. I see pictures of Sid looking at Mario like that, and it validates MY hero worship of him. You never know how much of a person's public image is "real," but one of the best proxies is to see how the people who know the person privately are around him. When they say things like Jaromir says, when they have a look like Sid's look, you know your own admiration and respect and awe and, yes, even hero worship, are well-placed.

well put, pensgirl! i was thinking the same thing, but you wrote it more eloquently than i ever could. :) i think the thing that struck me most about those 2 photos was 1.) even after living at his house, sid still is humbled in super mario's presence, and 2.) after all that "the next one" hype, sid's grounded enough to realize he's got a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way before he can think about wearing mario's shoes.

pittsburgh has to be THE LUCKIEST hockey town EVER.

pensgirl - what gets me about that moment is how much can go unsaid simply because of the look in both their eyes: Mario's look is the one that simultaneously says "Well done kid.", "You ready for this?", and most importantly, "This is your show now!" And Sid's look essentially sums up every emotion from elation to sheer terror - when you feel as though you are going to burst and spin off in a million directions from joy and nervousness, when your heart actually physically begins to hurt from trying to contain itself.

That was one of those moments - how could it not be? And, in the first photo, look in the background and check out how many people are watching... that kind of energy draws people in, they can't help but stare. It's incredible.

Stephanie - I was totally bummed that Dallas lost the series, but I'll say this: I live in Vancouver and couldn't care less for the Canucks, but if Dallas comes to town next season, I will be in the best seats I can afford, cheering for the Stars.

This is going to be one hell of a ride.

Snoop, you made me laugh! The cheapest tickets in Montreal, at ANY time of the year, are $175. Consider yourself lucky and splurge ;)

And all hail King Mario!

yes!! another canuck hater woohoo (i also live in bc and despise them)
hopefully when the pens come back i will be able to get tickets- not like this year when i was busy writing a math exam while my mom went. BAH
and for the record...yes the dallas fans were very classy, the canuck fans boo their own team and certainly don't deserve guys like luongo and linden.
GO PENS- how long til saturday? ahhh

Hello Jodie,

Good luck, I hope you get hold of some tickets today. If I were in your position, this is what I'd do:

1. Buy the best 4 tickets available, whatever the cost.
2. Auction off 2 of the 4 tickets on eBay.
3. With the remaining 2 tickets, go to the game for free!

For Round 2, the tickets seemed to be going for 2-3 times face value. (My ticket was a steal for only 1.4 times face value.) For out of towners (read: rabid Canadian hockey fanatics), eBay and other ticket resellers are the only option to see the game.

Any tickets you put up for auction on eBay *will* sell. Go for it!
