Happy July 4th, Friends

Greetings, my Friends!!! Happy Independence Day!

Ugh! It feels like I've been away for a year. :( The big project is finally done. Actually, it was done a few days ago, but woodstock and I found ourselves with a temporary house guest this week as a very dear friend of ours needed a place to stay following the breakup of his marriage. But he's now in an apartment of his own, and I'm all caught up at work.

Friend of The Show Jon sent in this next picture. I'll let him explain:
On Sunday June 21, there was a pro wrestling Pay-Per-View event in Detroit. The event was TNA (Total Nonstop Action) Wresting's annual Slammiversary. The main event was a "King of the Mountain" match featuring Kurt Angle. He is an Olympic gold medalist for the USA in the 1994 Summer Olympics. He then became a pro wrestler in the WWE (formerly the WWF). Anyway, he is a native of the Burgh. When he was announced, he came down the entrance ramp wearing a Crosby jersey. This obviously got a lot of boos from the Detroit crowd. It really made me laugh.

Kurt Angle knows what's up. ;)

Okay, so I missed blogging about the Free Agency Frenzy. I'll just quickly say that I'm really bummed about losing Hal Gill and Rob Scuderi. I'd just like to send out many thanks to both of them for their roles over the past few seasons which ultimately took us to the Cup. On the bright side, we've got Guerin, Adams, and Feds for at least another year and that makes me happy. But I have to tell you honestly that I'm not really worried about losing some of the guys because Shero has proven that he is absolutely brilliant when it comes to filling in the pieces of the puzzle. As long as we've got 87, 71, 29, 11, and 25, we're good to go. :)

Two quick updates for those of you who've been asking:
  1. My Gram is not doing so well. She called my Mom the other day and said she needed a ride and that she was in a town that, well, she hasn't been in for a number of years. I have no idea what's going on there. The doctors said it could be an imbalance with her medication, so keep your fingers crossed. As it stands, I am now starting to believe she will likely never leave the home to return to the family farm. I hope I'm wrong.

  2. Baylee is doing really, really well. :) He's going up and down stairs again, even though it takes him about 5 minutes to make the journey up. He takes a step, then takes a break. But he must be feeling better because he's following me around everywhere (even into the bathroom!) like he did when he was a puppy. Because of the medicine, he's hungry all the time. All. The. TIME. Every time we go into the kitchen he thinks he should be getting a Thanksgiving dinner. It's hilarious. We went from practically begging him to finish his supper to now having to be extremely careful not to overfeed him. I'm so happy that he's responding to the medicine so well. :)
I'll leave you with this a treat from Good Friend of The Show and Cole Harbour resident Bill ٩(●̮̮̃•̃)۶. He sent in a great shot of the updated "Welcome to Cole Harbour" sign:

Click to enlarge for a supersized version.

Many, many thanks to Jon and Bill ٩(●̮̮̃•̃)۶ for sharing their photos with us. Have a great and SAFE holiday, everyone!! :)

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY! I'm SO sorry about your Gram, but there's still hope.

Anyway, LOVE the sign.Gaborik (7+ mil.) is WAY overpaid, but I think Nash's extention (7.75 mil. a year for 8 extra years) is good. But what I've seen, Burke has accquired tough guys. Last time I checked a when we were failing, we rebuilded with talent. Anywho, they're going nowhere, but we are. With Billy G., Feds, Gologski, and Adams for another year, plus probally another few replacements by Shero will surely bring Stanley back.

Jodie, what your Gram needs is a visit from Baylee. Those big brown eyes and soft ears have magical healing powers.

Pronger DID sign an extension with the Flyers...

A SEVEN YEAR EXTENSION.

What the crap, Philly? He's 34 now, we ALL know he's gonna retire before the contract ends. And $5 mill a year on an aging player? Way to spend to the cap on sooooo few.

I hope the Flyers implode from the stupid decisions their GM is making this offseason.

Pray to whoever you believe in (Yes, Mario IS an option) and thank him/her/them/it for giving us Shero.

Seriously.

Also, if you haven't seen TK and Tanger reporting the weather for KDKA yet, you officially live under a rock. Even misplaced yinzers aren't excused cuz this is going around the blogosphere.

Do It.

Haha that TK and Tanger weather thing is hilarious!!! :D

On Wednsday I went to the American Idols Live tour in Vancouver and to get there from Victoria (where I was visiting) you have to take a 2 hour ferry ride. And to get to the ferry terminal you have to drive past a town called Sidney. Lol me and my Dad always say something about Sidney Crosby when we pass the "Welcome To Sidney:By The Sea" sign. :-)

I think Sakic retired because the Pens didn't have enough cap room to sign him. LoL!

NHL.com says there will be a major announcement to take place on Wed, July 15th at FENWAY PARK!! Anyone want to guess where this season's "Midwinter Classic" is going to be held?!?!? Biggest mystery now is who the Bruins are going to play, and I'll give odds either the Rangers or the Canadiens.

And I'm going on record to say that Hossa is NOT going to get the cup again this year with Chicago. Gaborik won't be enough to get the Ranger there either. AND . . .

Is Philadelphia out of their frakkin' minds?! Ian Laperriere comes in to replace Colton Orr who jumped ship. Huge Pronger bucks for a not-so-star player, and dropping Biron and Niittymaki for Brian Bouche AND RAY EMERY?!?!? Geeeeez, the circus has come to town!

Anyone want to bet on the finals being Atlanta versus Los Angeles this year? (That's a joke, BTW.)

And somebody needs to tell Shero that Mike Greer is still available and would be a huge bargain and a great fit as a roll player!

@Joceff

thn said in an issue a month and a half ago that it's the Caps. Next should be Leafs/Rangers because it isn't fait that all the other origonal six/expansion teams get to. (Ps- the real finals- T.O v Col.)

Just heard about the myspace scam. Someone pretending to be Sid and trying to raise money for a bogus cause. I think the twitter account in his name seems kinda fishy, too.

@ Anna -

You're correct about the twitter page. It was traced to a lady who used to be a wrestler. (Or perhaps she's a 'rassler?) She apparently set up a scam to set up a twitter page asking for donation to help a park in Minnesota rebuild after a devastating fire. Problem is, the park is fine, there was no fire, and the parks' people up there have never had any contact with Sid at all.

Cooperating with the police, the server company removed that account from twitter. However, a new page went up within a matter of a day or so. It was said to be Geno trying to help the same park for the same reason. It was also traced back to the same lady.

I have read the text from
"Geno's" page and it's actually hysterical. They intentionally MIS-spelled words in choppy broken English style in an effort to imitate the way Geno speaks English.

So please tell your family and friends to check into any place they may wish to contribute. That's always a good idea any way. Unless it's an obvious charity such as The United Way, Goodwill Industries or the Mario Lemieux Foundation. However, even reputable charities sometimes have political stances you may not agree with and you may wish to know this before you donate as well.

A Roaming Penguin with a sunburn!

Sidney and Marc-Andre Penguin just returned from the Outer Banks, NC (Best beach in the States, IMO), and man are they tanned! :p

A bit worried too. I sent Jodie several original Sidney drawings I did that I didn't have room to put up in my apartment that were delivered last week, but haven't heard a thing. I thought for sure I'd get an email acknowledging them but nothing. I know there were some things going on, but just hoping all is well and she's just very busy.
Does anyone know anything?
